Windows Memory Diagnostics Tool saves the day
Windows Memory Diagnostics Tool is one of those seldom used tools that very few people have ever heard about. In fact, I couldn’t remember when the last time I even used it but I do remember that it saved the day back then. It has saved the day again for me and this time it helped me solve a serious problem with a laptop. Turns out the memory was faulty and unless you have one of those “Hardware diagnostic cards” that cost hundreds of dollars, try this tool out if your PC keeps rebooting or acting strangely. (Assuming its not a virus)
Vista4beginners.com has a good “how-to”: http://www.vista4beginners.com/Windows-Memory-Diagnostics-Tool if you want more details. This also works on XP but you may have to download the tool first: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/2008.09.utilityspotlight.aspx?pr=blog
