Have you ever needed a specific software installed but couldn’t afford the cost of the software license and wished you had another choice? Or, have you ever wondered if there was an alternative or replacement for a piece of software that was no longer available or was to old to run on your current system? Try using Alternativeto.net to find “alternatives”; Open Source, freeware or shareware, that do the same or close to the same thing as the expensive and popular ones.
I became a fan recently when a client of mine needed to find software to create and modify PDF files. I immediately recommended Adobe Acrobat but when they heard how much it cost, that idea was dropped almost as quickly. Of course, I knew and heard of other PDF software but wasn’t familiar with any of them or even how to find them. A Google search wasn’t real helpful but then I remembered hearing about Alternativeto.net on Tekzilla.com and decided to give that a try. I did a search on the keyword “PDF”, and got a huge list of software that did the same thing as Acrobat and was able to give my client at least an alternative right away that was significantly less expensive.
With Alternativeto.net you can search for Windows, Mac, Linux, and Online software and Desktop or Mobile applications. Just type in a keyword search or the name of application your looking for an alternative for. The list you get in return will include recommendations by other users and links to the individual software. The site itself is easy to use and to find what you want and much quicker than digging around in Google. (You will need to create an account first to leave comments and “Likes”.)
This week’s “Website We Just Can’t Get Enough Of” is AlternativeTo.net… an amazing new site designed to help you find the best ‘alternative to’ any piece of software out there! Don’t settle for lame software ever again! Veronica Belmont, Tekzilla
This site has saved me and my clients money and time and I highly recommend it.
