Google Chrome 4.0 is finally here

After what seems to be a very long wait, Google Chrome 4.0 was released this week.  For the first time since Firefox came along, Chrome is a legitimate third alternative to Internet Explorer.  The main reason is because Chrome can now be extended with third-party applets called “extensions” just like Firefox “add-ons”.

For me, I’ve been using Chrome since version 2 and leading up to this new release, had almost completely replaced Firefox as my primary browser.  The only thing holding me back was the extensions.  Now with version 4, the extensions are really what make Chrome a better alternative to Firefox, IE , Safari, and Opera.  The extensions are easy to install and there are a lot to choose from already.  Firefox still has the most “add-ons”  and I will probably continue to use it as a web development tool, but Chrome is now my primary browser for regular web surfing.

There are other reasons to use Chrome of course.  Its faster; plain and simple it beats IE almost always and sometimes Firefox.  I think some of that has to do with how Chrome processes JavaScript and all I can say is thank you.  Chrome is also easier to use and less cluttered and once you start using it, I’m sure you will agree.  Chrome has only one bar for inputting web addresses, commands, and searches for example.

Also, I think this video about what browsers are and how they work is great for newbies:
