For this weeks SPW or Software Pick of the Week, I need to give credit to my favorite podcasts, Tekzilla, for turning me on to it. It’s called “Soluto” and I have been waiting for something like this for years.

by The Cibertek on 18. Aug, 2010 in Featured, Networking, News, Security, Updates
Early last year I wrote about one of the easiest ways to provide internet filtering for your home network. Read: http://cibertek.net/blog/2009/02/22/keep-your-family-safe-with-opendns/. At the time, OpenDNS had only one mode and only one set of options. Recently, they’ve expanded their features list under a “Deluxe Plan” and are now charging a small fee to use it.

Announcing a new WordPress theme for Cibertek Blog
by The Cibertek on 27. Jul, 2010 in News, Updates
This is the informal introduction to the revamped Cibertek Blog site. Over the past month or so, I’ve been working on a number of projects not to mention summer vacation and unfortunately had to put the blog on the back burner. However, I am back and to make a big splash, presenting a new WordPress theme for the Cibertek.net Blog.

Top 7 online backup services
by The Cibertek on 09. Jun, 2010 in Security, Software
I’ve been pounding the drums for a while now about backing up your data. Besides me, there are probably thousands of magazine articles, blog posts, and new software companies popping up almost every month dedicated to the subject. This has caused a shift in the type of questions I get from clients. For instance, more of my clients ask me about the “how” more than the “why”.

by The Cibertek on 07. Apr, 2010 in Tools, Windows

by The Cibertek on 06. Apr, 2010 in Networking, News, Security, Software
Cisco Home Products, a.k.a Linksys, launches a new home wireless product line this month called “Valet”. My first impression is it looks like a great product for home users who either don’t have a wireless network already or for those who want to upgrade what they have quickly and simply.
Backing up your data – Part 1: Local or Online backups?
by The Cibertek on 05. Apr, 2010 in Maintenance
Most of the questions I get about PC “backups” seem to be more about the “How” and not so much the “Why”. Logically, this leads me to believe that most people just don’t know how to do or run backups and that is why it never gets done. But like most things, once you know how or what options there are available, it gets easier.
