For this weeks SPW or Software Pick of the Week, I need to give credit to my favorite podcasts, Tekzilla, for turning me on to it. It’s called “Soluto” and I have been waiting for something like this for years.

3 spring cleaning tips for your PC
by The Cibertek on 24. Apr, 2010 in Maintenance
Its time to “spring clean” your PC Rig or laptop just like you do for the rest of your domicile. Your machine has been accumulating dust bunnies, body hair, body cells, crumbs, as well as, old temp files, deleted files, and outdated programs all winter. Its time to clean it out both inside and outside.
Backing up your data – Part 1: Local or Online backups?
by The Cibertek on 05. Apr, 2010 in Maintenance
Most of the questions I get about PC “backups” seem to be more about the “How” and not so much the “Why”. Logically, this leads me to believe that most people just don’t know how to do or run backups and that is why it never gets done. But like most things, once you know how or what options there are available, it gets easier.
Why are people still NOT backing up their digital data?
by The Cibertek on 23. Mar, 2010 in Maintenance, Software, Tools
To me, most people seem to think running a backup on their machine is an option instead of a necessity. Over the past two weeks, I’ve personally helped two people recover from complete system failures or hard drive crashes and another lost her entire Itunes music library. In all three cases, none of them had a backed up and their digital data.
Why defragging is still important; even on Windows 7
by The Cibertek on 01. Mar, 2010 in Maintenance
Back in the dark ages of Windows XP, defraging your hard drive seemed more important than it is today. Even though I recommend defraging at least every month as part of a montly maintenance program, it still seems to be more of a suggestion than it is a must especially with more modern OS like Vista and Windows 7.
If your new PC seems slow, it could be the Bloatware
by The Cibertek on 07. Jan, 2010 in Maintenance
Like a lot of people this Christmas, I got a new laptop. As usual, it had several useless pre-installed software on it taking up resources and space. The only way to regain the wasted space and to make sure I had a clean, working system was to do a complete overhaul.
Tips for using Windows 7 system image backup
by The Cibertek on 07. Sep, 2009 in Maintenance, Software, Windows
In previous post, I wrote about ways to protect your data using regular backups and online backups. These tasks are easy to setup and run on a regular basis and should be part of everyone’s regular monthly tasks. However these types of “backup” can’t backup your software, data, and operating system all in one shot.
Monthly PC Tune Guide
by cibertek on 03. Aug, 2009 in Maintenance, Tools
The end of the month is the time I run my Monthly PC Tune-up to make sure things are running smoothly. Its a simple list of six tasks or tune-up steps that I run on my PC at the end of every month.
