Another reason to upgrade or get rid of IE6 if you are on the Windows platform, YouTube will not work on it after next month. Keep in mind, you dont have to use IE to browse the web. If you have an old XP machine, you can still install Firefox or Chrome and they will work fine

Starting with this post, I am making a slight change in the title of this weekly post. It’s a small change from “website” to “webapp”. The basic reason is that is that I believe that most websites that are really useful or make life easier in some way, are a lot more than just good web design. They are more like functional web based applications. This is especially true of my favorite webapp to date: Evernote.

If you haven’t heard of Pandora.com before or know what it is, you are definitely missing out on one of the coolest websites on the web. Imagine listening to all kinds of music streamed right to your computer and out the speakers, all day if needed, for free.

First, I am aware that for some people, this website might be a little scary. I acknowledge the “scariness” and I too was a little wary to start using it. But, if you can get past this, Mint.com is pretty cool. Mint.com is a “Web 2.0″ website or web tool that will aggregate all of your financial account balances in one place.

Back in July, I wrote about the ways you can synchronize files between computers over the internet. At that time, I exalted the virtues of Microsoft’s Live Mesh and its other services like Skydrive. For some reason I hadn’t even mentioned Dropbox, mostly because I hadn’t heard of it up to that point.

I started up a Windows Vista machine recently that hadn’t been turned on for almost 9 months. Of course, the first thing it did once I gave it an internet connection was to start downloading all the past 9 months worth of Windows updates.

If you want to live on the edge, you can download the Office 2010 Public Beta. Like any beta software, download and install at your own risk. From what I can tell so far, its a stable beta although not everything works.

I have been sounding the horn since late last year as a beta tester about W7 and its finally here! Officially released today, October 22nd 2009! I realize that this has been said before, but it really can’t be understated this time; “Windows 7 is the best Microsoft Operating System Ever”!

In previous post, I wrote about ways to protect your data using regular backups and online backups. These tasks are easy to setup and run on a regular basis and should be part of everyone’s regular monthly tasks. However these types of “backup” can’t backup your software, data, and operating system all in one shot.

Looks like Microsoft will come thru finally with a Windows 7 Family Pack. Starting on October 22nd the price for the Windows 7 Family Pack will be $149.99 for 3 Windows 7 Home Premium licenses. That’s huge for those of us who have more than one machine and a great value.

If you running Windows Home Server, Powerpak 3 Beta is now available. The main reason for the update is the new Windows 7 integration. WHS will be able to backup AND restore full Windows 7 images, integrate with the W7 libraries, and use Windows Search 4. It also includes some new features [...]
