At the time, OpenDNS had only one mode and only one set of options. Recently, they’ve expanded their features list under a “Deluxe Plan” and are now charging a small fee to use it.

Secure your network, change the default password to your router

Changing your default router password is one of the easiest things to do to secure your network. The problem is most people don’t know how, don’t care to, or forget the password they set. But if you don’t know how, all you have to do is reference the router’s manual for instructions. If you don’t care or understand how critical it is to do so, then I should ask if you keep your front door open at night also?

Until just a few years ago, I used a “full featured” Internet Security software. The common practice was to have some sort of software firewall to protect your system from Internet attacks. Most of these programs come bundled now with Anti-Virus software, browser protection, spam protection, and spyware protection. Back in the day, I used Zone Alarm then later I started to use Symantec Internet Security and finally graduated to Norton 360 back in 2004. Today, I don’t use any of them. In fact, I think they are some of the worst things you can put on your Windows system. They’re basically now just “Bloatware”; overgrown and overpriced software to make you feel like your protecting your system from hackers.

What Anti-Virus program should I use?
I get that question at least once a week. My answer is usually whatever AV program I happen to be running at the time. Over the years the answer has changed. Because I’ve had to rebuild, restore, or clean several of my system over the years because of viruses; I am a firm believer in having some sort of AV or Malware scanner running in the background. So I’ve tried almost every AV software out there from Norton (Symantec), McAffee, and One Care to Kaspersky
and ESET NOD32.
